Image for The Life of Jeremiah

If ever we needed proof that being a believer is tough then the life of Jeremiah is certainly a case in point. A Jewish patriot who felt compelled to deliver a message he did not want to give. A prophet who knew from the start his message would be rejected. A man who felt keenly the rejection he experienced. A person who was called to be faithful not successful. Jeremiah’s life and message has much to teach us in a setting that is often antagonistic. He stood by his calling and clung to hope.

Jeremiah 1:1-19

God knew us before we were even born. There is no room for excuses when He calls. We are called to be faithful, not necessarily successful. God is the one who strengthens.

Jeremiah 2:1-13, 23-25 & 27-28

Have we swapped God for worthless things? Do we use Him as a back stop when all else fails? Are we aware of the pain we cause the heart of God when we desert Him?

Part 3: Actions Speak Louder Than Words

Jeremiah 7:1-11 & 27-29

Revival starts among God’s people. It is his people that need to hear and obey. To fall under the judgement of God is a fearful thing.

by Chris Mellor February 3, 2019 10:30am

Jeremiah 20:7-18

Jeremiah was mocked and alone. God’s message is like a fire burning within him. Jeremiah holds nothing back. He is honest even about his negative feelings.

Part 5: A Strong and Upright King Will Come

by Dave King February 10, 2019 10:30am

Jeremiah 23:1-8

The leaders of Israel had proved terribly inadequate. A great and mighty King was coming. This is a prophecy that began to be fulfilled at Christ’s coming and will find its completion at his second coming.

Part 6: The Characteristics of Good Christian Leaders

by Chris Mellor February 24, 2019 10:30am

Jeremiah 23:9-29

The Jewish religious leaders at the time of Jeremiah, lived immorally, neglected the counsel of God and their failings helped lead a whole nation into exile. We learn from their monumental mistakes that good Christian leaders need to practice what they preach, make it a priority to spend quality time in God’s presence and remember the immense responsibility that rests upon their shoulders.

Part 7: Bloom Where You Are Planted

by Chris Mellor March 3, 2019 10:30am

Jeremiah 29:1-14

Exile was a severe punishment but God had not forgotten them. When we truly repent our future is secure. In a sense, as Christians, we are exiles in a foreign land. This world is not our home. We are passing through. God wants to work for the peace and prosperity of the city he has placed us in.

Part 8: A Sure and Certain Hope

by Chris Mellor March 10, 2019 10:30am

Jeremiah 32:1-15

Jeremiah was so sure of God’s promises that he built his life upon them. When Jerusalem was about to fall to the Babylonians he bought land in Anathoth. Restoration awaits! (33:6-9)
