Chris and Fi met while studying at London Bible College. They were married in 1986. They have three grown-up children: Joshua, Bethany and Samuel. Chris has been the Senior Leader of two previous churches in the North West of England. Fi has been a teacher for many years. They have also lived and worked as missionaries in Kenya, Nigeria and Ethiopia. They are both very excited about serving God alongside Elmwood Church in Salford. They are absolutely convinced they are where God has called them to be as they begin this next chapter of service for Him.
My name is Matthew Pierce but you can call me Matt. I am the Youth and Children’s Pastor at Elmwood Church. I was born and bred in Durban, South Africa, but now live in sunny Salford. I love Jesus, my family and Arsenal football club and most people. I enjoy a bit of fishing when I get the chance and I love a good South African Braai ‘known as a barbeque here, but to me that is a sauce I put on my meat on the braai’.
2 Corinthians 5:7, ‘We walk by faith and not by sight’
Jill has been attending Elmwood, together with her husband, since 1993. She works as an educational consultant and enjoys reading, gardening, swimming and playing with her grandchildren.
Rebecca Kelly has been coming to Elmwood since she was a student in 1999. She and her husband Martin were married here in 2003 and they, with their two sons, live in Eccles.
Rebecca can often be seen at Elmwood Church Toddler Group and works in Media City. Alongside listening to and making radio programmes, she loves cats, spending time with her family, and taking photos of letter boxes.
I have been attending Elmwood church since 2002, becoming a member in 2004. I’m husband to Irene and father to three grown up children. We have 4 grandchildren.
I’m currently serving as both a trustee and member of the Leadership Team, in charge of finances.
I’m retired and, outside of church, I volunteer with the charity Ambassadors Football and I am on the board of trustees for a Christian school in India ‘Friends of Inheritors’ and Boothstown Village Hall, where I live. I also love reading and walking.
I have been coming to Elmwood since 1986 when I got married to Dave and moved up from London. We felt called to stay in Salford and, so far, God’s not called us to move anywhere else!
I have 3 sons – two all grown up, one in primary school keeping me young at heart. For many years I enjoyed working with young people as a youth leader. More recently, I have been able to put all the things God has taught me in youth ministry to good use working with my fellow trustees.
I am a Radio 4 addict, I enjoy art galleries, I recently discovered I like body boarding and I am a huge Star Wars fan.
I’ve been coming to Elmwood since 1995, before which, I attended Holy Trinity Platt Church in Fallowfield.
I can’t remember when I joined the Trustees, it was that long ago! Before I served with the Trustees, I was involved in Youth and Children’s work, and also served our ministry to international members back when we had a large number of international students coming to Elmwood. Ialso lead a homegroup with my wife Annabelle. We have two young boys who both enjoy the children’s ministries here at church.
I currently work at Manchester University, lecturing in research in medicinal chemistry in the Pharmacy department.
In my spare time I love playing hockey and play for the Cheadle Hulme Mixed team. If I had more spare time, I would love to do more art…
I have lived locally and attended Elmwood since I married my wife, Pat in 1972. I have served on the Eldership, Trustees and had the privilege of being Treasurer for 32 of those years, seeing God supply all our needs for what is now a £4.2m building, as well as staffing all the ministries. I still like to support the Finance Team and take a keen interest in Missions.
I love walking and being in the great outdoors – particularly in the Lake District.
I’ve been attending Elmwood Church since 2016, when I moved back to the North West with my wife, after many years of working in the South-East. I’ve already helped with a number of Alpha Courses at Elmwood, and I’m often found chatting with friends in Eccles or updating my blog.
