Table cropLast Wednesday GEMs along with members of TLC and Ladies Fellowship with a whole host of others, put on a tea party for 60 of our own folk, their friends and our community contacts.

The idea came from one of our long time, room hire customers, the Stoke Association. They were keen to speak to any group at risk of stroke; to take their blood pressure and give them advice. Apparently 25% of strokes could easily be prevented if we were more aware and careful about our blood pressure.

Blood pressure checkNot wanting to miss an opportunity to make connections with our friends and community, Gill Jones and GEMs agreed to demonstrate their exercises, let people have a go and invite them to join the group. It was great fun watching Gill and her friends, and doing the exercises ourselves. Several expressed interest in joining GEMs

We also invited David Fowler to speak, which he did on the theme, “Matters of the Heart”. He shared how his heart had been captured when he was a boy and went on to offer the same opportunity to our guests.

So thank you to everyone who baked, laid tables, shifted furniture and generally contributed to the success of the afternoon, especially Deirdre, Marie, Gill, David F and David L. When’s the next event?
