“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

You may believe what John said (you should – it’s from the Bible! John 3:16), but do you honestly believe that God loves YOU? Just as you are…whatever you think…whatever you’ve done.

And if you do believe that God loves you so much, what difference does it make to your life? Do you know the utter relief, the absolute joy that comes from the certainty that you are loved by God? The Bible tells us that if we acknowledge that Jesus is the Son of God and that he paid the penalty for our sins, then God lives in us and we can rely on His love for us (1 John 4: 15-16). In a way we cannot fully understand, when we are Christians, God looks at us and sees the perfect Jesus.

We all know that there are things in our lives that need to change. We want to be more like Jesus. But we’re not going to do that by sheer hard work or, as Barry Mately put it when he preached at Elmwood recently, by ‘pulling our socks up’.

However, because God loves us so much, He can and will change us if we allow Him to. That’s why He gives us His Holy Spirit – the Spirit of Jesus living in us. Amazing!

If you’re not convinced by my words, give yourself half an hour, make a cup of tea and read 1 John 4: 7 -21. Let me know what you think.
