I wonder what you think of when you hear someone described as ‘a born leader’?
I have just been reading a biography on the life of Napoleon Bonaparte. Napoleon was extremely hard working and focused. He had an incredible ability to remember details. He was a gifted military strategist and pushed initiatives forward with an iron will. For a time his incredible victories on the battlefields of Europe inspired the French nation.
However, his whole objective was to accrue for himself power and glory and his selfish ambition cost hundreds of thousands of lives. Immortalising himself was his highest goal and eventually secured his downfall.
Jesus pointed to rulers who lorded it over their people, but called his disciples to a better way (Matthew 20:25). A born leader, in the Christian context does not seek to be served, but to serve. They do not expend the lives of others, but save them. They follow the example of the One who came “to give His life as a ransom for many” Matthew 20:28
